USMC Toys for Tots Receives Fence Donation

For the sixth year in a row, Long® Fence has donated fencing to the United States Marine Corps for the District of Columbia Toys for Tots drive. Portable security fence panels were provided for use inside the Marine Corps Reserve Training Center at the Anacostia Annex in Washington DC.

Surviving the Dog Days

During the dog days of summer, be sure to keep an extra eye on your four-legged friend. Dogs can suffer from heat stroke, often faster than a human. Your dog is at a greater risk of heat stroke if he is a working dog that exercises outdoors daily, or is confined to a crate, kennel, outdoor doghouse or vehicle. Although your dog needs shelter from the sun, if a kennel is your only option, be sure the area is well ventilated, shaded and a supply of fresh water is always available.

Say You’re Welcome!

Your front porch is like a handshake, welcoming visitors, serving as a connection point with the neighborhood, and role-playing as the first (and sometimes only) impression for passers-by and neighbors.

Whether your front porch is large or small, or even if it’s more of an entrance way than a porch, there are simple things you can do to make it more inviting without breaking the budget.

We Support Our Troops

Long® Fence is proud to be a contributing sponsor to the Military Bowl matchup between the Air Force Falcons and University of Toledo Rockets held at RFK Stadium in Washington DC on December 28, 2011. The event will air live on ESPN at 4:30 pm EST.

Deck-orate with Eco-Friendly Luminaries

With a little creativity, tin cans can become surprisingly elegant luminaries instead of trash. Save money on expensive candle decor with this fun project.

Materials:

  • Empty Tin Cans
  • Candles
  • Thin Nails
  • Hammer
  • Tape Measure
  • Pencil
  • Paper (or Tracing paper)

Steps:

1.) Remove any labels or stickers from the can and clean inside and out. If your can has a jagged edge at top, use a metal file to file it down. Most safety can openers give you a clean edge.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Long® Fence!

It’s hard to find anyone who hasn’t been affected by the difficulties our country has faced during these past few years, so we’d like to take a moment to thank our customers, business partners and employees, knowing that each and every one of you has a story to tell. We are also grateful to our veterans, who protect our rights and freedoms. We hope Thanksgiving will find all of you blessed with a place to call home, plentiful food and the comfort and warmth of family and friends.

Long® Fence Sponsors Maryland Komen Race for the Cure

Long® Fence is proud to have been a Gold sponsor in the 2011 Komen Maryland Race for the Cure. The 19th annual Race for the Cure took place Sunday, October 23, 2011 in Hunt Valley, Maryland.

A record breaking 32,000 runners and walkers participated and over $2.4 million was raised for the fight against breast cancer.

Long® Fence barricades were used throughout the venue to direct racers to registration stations, close off streets, control crowds and define special areas such as sponsor tents and activities.

What's Next?

First an earthquake, then a hurricane! From the sound of our phones this week, we know that many of our friends out there suffered some type of property damage during Hurricane Irene. No matter how well you prepare for a storm of this type, the force of the wind on your trees and other structures can have devastating results.

In the same way you prepare to keep your house and family safe during a major storm, you can prepare your yard to minimize damage. Here are some measures you can take:

Giving Back to the Community

The Long® Fence office in Capitol Heights, Maryland recently participated in Capitol Heights’ Neighborhood Enhancement Program by donating entrance fence and gates to Capitol Heights Elementary School.

General contractor Turner Construction arranged partnerships with local area businesses to provide help and service to the targeted recipient, Capitol Heights Elementary School. Saturday, June 25 was designated Volunteer Community Day by Turner Construction, with local merchants providing landscaping, fencing, painting, flooring, and general maintenance to the school.
