Driveway Gates & Automated Openers

Iron gates add elegance to any property, while enhancing its privacy and security. But choosing your iron gate is just the beginning. If you are just starting out with ideas for your estate or garden entryway, you will need to decide several things. First, determine which type of gate is right for your needs: a swinging gate or sliding gate. Will the gate be secured to new brick or stone pillars or an existing structure? Which automatic gate opener will work best for your situation, including access controls and technical support? Because of the size and scope of this project, it is best to work with a contractor that can provide expert advice on all facets of installation and operation. LONG® FENCE offers a full range of single and double gate styles and can enhance your gate with brick or stone pillars and an automated operating system.

Perhaps you already have a gate and need to automate it. Many customers who purchase driveway gates without an automatic opener choose to automate the gate at a later time. The convenience of having an electric gate opener can be well worth the investment. LONG® FENCE can provide solutions for your existing driveway gate as well. Plus, you can complete your project with matching garden gates and fencing!

Keeping the Family Dog Safe and Secure

Many pet owners do not consider a secure fenced yard necessary for their dog. Often heard are comments like, “I’ll train him not to run off.” Or “I’ll keep them on a leash at all times.” Or “I’ll use ‘invisible type’ fencing.”

By natural instinct, dogs live and love to chase things. Many will run after just about anything that moves just for the fun of it. Some dogs have a strong chase/retrieve drive. A fence will keep your dog from chasing that rabbit into the next county.

Dogs are social animals, often running up to anything to engage it in a game or a loving pat. They are heedless of things like a roadway with cars in between them and the children they see playing ball across the street.

Every dog deserves a safe place to run free, exercise and play. Regular exercise keeps them fit and healthy. Even the most well trained dog on a leash needs free space to run and feel unencumbered.

Invisible fencing doesn’t always keep an overly excited dog within its boundaries. A dog may run out of the yard and then be too apprehensive to re-enter the yard because he knows the shock is coming. Also this type of fencing only affects the animal wearing the collar. It will not keep other dogs, animals or people from coming into the yard. The effectiveness of this type of fencing is dependent on the batteries in the collar, keeping the collar on and in proper position and the power supply to the wiring remaining intact. Any failure in these variables can render the “fence” useless.

Pet owners in homes without fencing can certainly be diligent and capable, but even the most diligent owners have days where they are sick, too rushed or the weather is bad and the tendency to “just let the dog out to go and come right back” is tempting. You’ll want to provide the best, safest and most loving home for your dog and a secure fence will help you show your dog just how much you love him!

Question of the Month
Q: Can my existing deck be converted into a screened porch?

  A:

There is no universal answer to this question. Many factors can determine whether an existing deck can be easily converted into a screened porch. For instance, was the original deck built to code with a building permit? If the answer is yes, then a determination must be made as to whether the existing deck will also meet the local building codes regarding screened porches. Most of the time the building codes are different for these products since a deck supporting a screened porch must bear additional weight. Usually, an existing deck can be modified for a screened porch. All LONG® DECKS are built code ready for screened porches should the homeowner desire a future conversion. LONG® FENCE representatives are well versed in local building codes and will work with you to determine the best decision for your situation. Our estimates are free and without obligation so contact us today!
