Sunrooms: The Extra Space You Always Wanted

Think of a sunroom addition when planning extra space for your home! Sunrooms provide beautiful outdoor living space for entertaining, relaxing with your family, as a personal getaway space, or as a playroom for the children. Walls of glass bring the beauty of the outdoors – indoors! If you want to improve your lifestyle – a sunroom will be right for you!

Sunroom additions are NOT the same as a conventional construction room addition. With sunrooms, you get walls of glass to invite the outside in. Extend the outdoor season with a three season patio room, or choose an insulated vinyl sunroom addition that can be heated and cooled to your comfort during most weather conditions.

Unlike conventional construction, a LONG® SUNROOM usually takes less than a week to install. Adding a room addition requires excavation for a foundation, plus the installation of heating, cooling and electrical systems. A LONG® SUNROOM can be installed on your code compliant patio or deck, with little construction mess and disruption. Our sunrooms cost far less than a regular addition using conventional construction methods and materials.

LONG® SUNROOMS are fully engineered to meet local building and energy codes. The components for our sunroom additions are manufactured under stringent quality control and are fully backed by the manufacturer with a 15 year warranty on components and a lifetime warranty against defective glass breakage.

To help you decide whether one of our sunrooms is the best choice for you and your family, contact us! We will provide a no-obligation estimate for your sunroom addition. Then you can decide what type of project best meets your needs and your budget.

Tips and Ideas

Bringing the Outdoors In

If your goal is to bring the outdoors in with a sunroom addition, here are some decorating tips:

Choose patterns and colors that reflect the outdoors. Rustic terra cotta, rich browns, leafy greens and cool blues are all natural colors, and lend themselves well to creating a natural looking environment.

Use natural materials. Stone, wood and many kinds of tile are great materials to use for an outdoor feeling. Other finishes that work inside and out are bamboo, granite and iron. The dark color of the iron and granite can be a nice contrast to bright interior colors.

Bring nature in. Plants, flowers and natural wood add color to a room and make you feel like you're surrounded by nature. When bringing plants in, mix both tall and short ones together to make the room look more balanced and attractive. It's amazing how much character and color nature can add to a room.

 Flooring Suggestions
If your sunroom has a glass roof, don't put an expensive, indoor carpet on the floor. The sunlight will eat it! Indoor/Outdoor carpet will have much greater durability.  Dark colored tiles will absorb a lot of heat during the sunny hours of the day and give it back off to the space as the room cools. Terra-cotta tile is good for flooring in sunrooms because not only is it a wonderful earth tone, but the rugged cut makes you feel as if you were walking on an outdoor patio.

 Furniture Suggestions
Bear in mind that everything in your sunroom may be exposed to sunlight. Traditional household furniture may not always be the best choice. Indoor fabrics will fade and degrade quickly in the direct sunlight.  Unless you have a good shading system, stick with outdoor-type furniture – wicker, bamboo, iron or other types of metal with replaceable cushions made from fade-resistant fabrics.

Question of the Month
Q: What is the difference between aluminized and galvanized chain link?

  A:

Galvanized chain link fence is simply a woven steel wire fence coated with zinc to prevent rust. This type of chain link fabric is the most common due to its price, but the coating process can leave burrs on the fence, which can injure pets and children. Plus all galvanized fence will eventually succumb to rust.

Aluminized chain link is made from a continuous steel wire that has been hot-dip coated with an aluminum alloy and then woven into fabric resulting in a smoother, safer, more uniform fence with excellent corrosion resistance. Zero maintenance makes it a far more economical fence fabric. Need more info?
