What are composites?

Composites are everywhere, from the latest aerospace and automobile technology to boats, golf clubs, fishing poles and helmets. Your roofing, siding, windows and countertops probably contain composite material. Wherever high performance, long life and easy care are important, composites push limits and provide solutions.

Composite products are developed to convey all of the benefits of their raw materials, with few, if any of the limitations. But not all composites are equal. Shortcuts and lower-quality stock may yield adequate composites, but only the highest-quality raw materials produce the best products.

Composite decking and deck railings are made by combining a variety of suitable polymer resins with refined cellulose, most often derived from forest products. LONG® composite decking and railings are manufactured using only the finest raw materials available and the latest in polymer technology. It is this combination of high-quality ingredients and manufacturing expertise that produces the best-performing composite products in the industry.

Good News for Kids: Doctors Advise More Play

Doctors may soon have a prescription for health that even kids will like: more playtime.

European and international health experts say a new study makes the most convincing case yet for the benefits of children being active. They say the research may lead to new guidelines that say youngsters between ages 5 and 16 need to be active up to 1 and 1/2 hours a day. Experts said the study doesn’t mean children need to be on treadmills or in soccer leagues — they just need to be able to run around and play physically, even for short bursts of time. For some parents, that might be accomplished simply by showing their children the door.

A safe backyard is a must when children play outside. A fenced yard will not only keep the little ones in but it can also keep unwelcome visitors out. Of course, no fence is a substitute for diligent supervision by a caregiver, but a fenced yard will offer some peace of mind.

Many different fence styles are available depending on whether your primary goal is privacy, security, boundary establishment or simply aesthetics. Your choice of fence materials ranges from splinter-free, no-maintenance vinyl, which is perfect for families with children and available in private and semi-private styles, to economical chain link which allows for clear, unobstructed views. Iron offers visibility and security and traditional wood styles range from privacy to picket.

LONG® FENCE is the expert when it comes to providing a protected and enjoyable backyard environment for the family. We have over 60 years of experience so call us first before you say, "Go outside and play!"
