What to do with an Old Chain Link Fence?

Posted in: Fencing

If your chain link fence is in bad shape after years of use, you may be tempted to jut let it go. You may think it's too much trouble or maybe it seems like too big a job to replace your old chain link fence. We've got some good advice for what you can do about an old chain link fence.

Repair Your Old Chain Link Fence:

If your old chain link fence is falling apart, has holes, or is no longer able to stand upright, you can repair it. Since failing panels of chain link can be cut out and replaced with new panels, you can repair an old fence fairly effectively yourself or you can hire a fence specialist to do this for you. This can be a good way to get more mileage out of that fence and save money for other home improvement projects, while still maintaining a secure perimeter.

Replace Your Old Chain Link Fence:

If you aren't in love with your old chain link fence and you don't want to put time and effort into saving it, you can replace the fence. Specialists can install a new chain link fence or a different style of fence that looks more in line with your home. There are many types of fencing options that can help secure your yard.

Repaint Your Old Chain Link Fence:

If your old chain link fence looks worn and rusted, but is otherwise structurally sound, you can get more mileage out of it with a coat of paint. Before you repaint a rusty fence, you'll need to scrape off the rust with a wire brush. Then you must apply an anti-rusting solution, so that rust does not grow again. Then, you'll add a metal primer, and a metal paint. Since this can by time-consuming, you may prefer to outsource the project.
